Tiger Woods, 50, worked through full shots including his trademark low stinger at a charity clinic at Monterey Peninsula Country Club on October 13, the clearest public sign in months that his body is ready for competition.
The appearance came at the Tiger Woods Invitational, a three-day event hosted by his TGR Foundation. A month earlier he had told guests at the Nexus Cup charity day at Liberty National that he could “hit pretty much anything.”
Neither moment amounts to a confirmed return. The Hero World Challenge, which Woods hosts in the Bahamas, has given the speculation a concrete date to point at.
Three exemption spots at Albany
The 20-man field for the Hero World Challenge, which runs from December 3 to 6 at Albany in the Bahamas, was announced on October 19. Seventeen players have been confirmed, including world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and defending champion Hideki Matsuyama, leaving three exemption slots still to be filled, according to Sky Sports.

Woods, the tournament host, was not on the initial list. One of the three open spots would be the obvious route back if he decides to tee it up before the end of the year.
More than two years out of competition
Woods’s last competitive round was at The Open at Royal Troon in July 2024, where he missed the cut. He underwent a lumbar disc replacement in October 2025, the latest in a long run of back operations.
Hopes of an earlier 2026 return disappeared when he was arrested on March 27 following a vehicle rollover on Jupiter Island, Florida. He later spent time at a rehabilitation facility in Switzerland and, in September, accepted a five-year suspension of his driver’s license in a deal with prosecutors in his impaired-driving case.
As Heavy noted in its coverage of the Hero World Challenge announcement, hitting shots at a charity clinic is a long way from completing a four-round professional tournament. The signals from Woods himself keep growing warmer, though.

“I can hit pretty much anything,” he told guests at the Nexus Cup last month, a line later carried by Yahoo Sports.
The next concrete step will come when the three remaining Hero World Challenge exemptions are announced in the weeks before the December 3 start.
