Tom Brady has spent his retirement building a career that reaches far beyond football. His growing presence in broadcasting, NFL ownership and entertainment has now prompted an unusual question: Could the seven-time Super Bowl champion eventually run for president?
The suggestion came from Pro Football Talk founder Mike Florio, who argued in a column published by NBC Sports that Brady’s latest public ventures could be part of a broader political strategy.
“Brady’s play could be to lay the foundation for a presidential run,” Florio wrote.
There is no evidence that Brady is preparing a campaign. Florio also acknowledged that he had no inside information about Brady’s political ambitions and said the idea had initially been raised by a reader.

Brady’s public profile continues to grow
Since retiring from the NFL following the 2022 season, Brady has established himself in several prominent roles.
He has worked as Fox Sports’ lead NFL analyst since the beginning of the 2024 season, rather than merely being set to take the position. Fox Sports announced his arrival alongside lead play-by-play commentator Kevin Burkhardt before Brady’s first year in the booth.
Brady is also a limited partner in the Las Vegas Raiders. According to NFL.com’s report on the ownership approval, Brady personally owns a five per cent stake, while he and business partner Tom Wagner collectively control ten per cent.
His portfolio therefore already combines media exposure, commercial influence and a formal role within an NFL franchise.

A possible move into WWE
Brady has also expressed an interest in professional wrestling.
During a live conversation with WWE star Cody Rhodes at Fanatics Fest in New York, Brady publicly asked WWE president Nick Khan to find a role for him.
“I think I could get in there for at least one match. Come on, Nick. Make it happen,” Brady said, as quoted by CBS Sports.
Brady pointed to former New England Patriots teammate Rob Gronkowski and WWE performer Logan Paul as examples of public figures who had successfully entered the wrestling world.

No match has been officially announced, but Brady’s comments showed that his interest was more than a joke. WWE would also offer him another major platform on which to develop a public character, although that alone does not support the theory that he is preparing for politics.
The political idea is not entirely new
Brady has never announced a political campaign, presented a policy platform or publicly stated that he wants to hold elected office.
However, his name has previously appeared in private discussions about presidential politics.
According to a Business Insider report based on reporting by Puck, former FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried asked his team to examine how American voters might respond to Brady as a presidential candidate. The discussions reportedly took place before FTX collapsed in 2022.

The proposal never developed into a campaign, and there is no indication that Brady acted on it.
For now, the presidential theory remains exactly that: speculation. Brady’s broadcasting career, ownership stake and WWE interest may simply reflect an athlete attempting to remain influential after retirement.
Even so, as his public profile continues to expand, questions about his ultimate ambition are unlikely to disappear.
