Trump greeted by hostile reception

Donald Trump’s arrival at Madison Square Garden for Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday night was met with boos, jeers and visible protests from sections of the New York Knicks crowd.

The Knicks were hosting the San Antonio Spurs in a high-stakes matchup, but Trump’s presence added a political edge to an evening already charged with expectation, according to an Express article.

Several spectators were seen holding signs criticising Trump, including messages such as “Nobody wants you here”, “Trump must go” and “Impeach. Convict. Remove.” Others made gestures of disapproval as he entered the arena.

One fan was heard shouting an expletive-laden anti-Trump message before adding that they had come to support the Knicks. Nearby supporters then joined in with a chant that combined criticism of Trump with backing for the home team.

Security measures slow entry

Trump’s attendance also brought a heavy security presence to Madison Square Garden.

Secret Service personnel were visible around the venue, screening fans and enforcing additional restrictions. Supporters were not allowed to bring bags into the arena, and many were directed into controlled queues outside the building.

The security operation caused long delays for some attendees, with fans reportedly waiting more than an hour to enter.

The measures extended beyond the arena itself. Helicopters were seen overhead and near the waterfront as part of the wider security operation around the event.

Knicks chase history

Inside the arena, the focus remained on basketball.

The Knicks entered Game 3 with a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series and were aiming to move closer to their first NBA title since 1973. With two more victories, New York would end one of the longest championship waits in the league.

For the Spurs, the task was to respond quickly and keep the series alive. San Antonio were chasing a sixth NBA championship and facing a difficult challenge against a Knicks team carrying both momentum and home-court energy.

Politics meets a major sporting night

Trump’s appearance ensured that Game 3 was not only a sporting occasion but also a political spectacle.

For many Knicks fans, the night was supposed to be about the team’s pursuit of a long-awaited championship. Instead, the atmosphere outside Madison Square Garden showed how quickly a major sporting event can become entangled with national politics.

Once the game began, the attention shifted back to the court. But the reception Trump received made his arrival one of the defining images of the evening.
