Harry Kane’s future at Bayern Munich has become a focal point of transfer speculation, with Barcelona reportedly making contact with the England captain’s representatives to explore a potential deal after this summer’s World Cup. The Catalan giants are seeking a high-profile replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who is set to join MLS side Chicago Fire following the expiry of his contract at Camp Nou.
Despite Barcelona’s reported interest, Kane’s camp has “shut down the conversation” regarding a move, according to the Daily Mail. The 32-year-old striker is currently entering the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich, who are keen to secure his long-term commitment. Discussions have already taken place over a new deal that would see Kane remain at the Allianz Arena until 2029.
Bayern’s contract offer and Kane’s record-breaking season
Kane has enjoyed a sensational spell at Bayern, demonstrating prolific form that has attracted attention from across Europe. In the 2025-26 season, he netted an astonishing 70 goals for club and country, a tally surpassed only by Lionel Messi for most goals in a single season by a player this century. This remarkable output underscores why Bayern is eager to retain their star forward.
Speaking on his future, Kane expressed openness to extending his stay in Germany, stating, “In terms of staying longer, I could definitely see that. I have not had those conversations with Bayern yet, but if they were to arise, I would be willing to talk and have an honest conversation. Obviously, it depends on how the next year or so goes and what we achieve together. We are in a fantastic moment and I am not thinking about anything else.” He also touched upon a potential Premier League return, admitting his desire to go back has “gone down a little bit” since moving to Bayern.

Ballon d’Or ambitions hinge on major trophies
Kane’s individual ambitions are closely tied to team success, particularly regarding the coveted Ballon d’Or award. He made his aspirations clear in November, emphasizing the importance of winning major silverware. “I could score 100 goals this season but if I don’t win the Champions League or the World Cup, you’re probably not going to win the Ballon d’Or,” Kane remarked. “It’s the same with Erling Haaland [at Manchester City]. It’s the same with any player. You have to be winning those major trophies.”
At the time of these comments, Bayern Munich was in formidable shape, unbeaten in all 17 matches across all competitions. Kane noted the team’s strong position, saying, “With the way the season is going as a team with Bayern Munich, it looks like we’re in great shape. It looks like we’re one of the favourites for the Champions League, for sure. Same with England. I think we’re going to go into the tournament as one of the favourites.”
As England prepares to face DR Congo in the World Cup Round of 32 on Wednesday, Kane’s immediate focus remains on international glory. Paris Saint-Germain defended their Champions League crown in May, highlighting the elite competition for European club football’s top prize, a trophy that remains central to Kane’s individual accolades.
