Yamal sends clear message
Lamine Yamal has added his own voice to the growing speculation around Julián Álvarez and Barcelona.
The 18-year-old winger, already one of the most influential figures at both Barcelona and in the Spain squad, was asked about the possibility of the Atlético Madrid forward moving to the Catalan club.
According to Mundo Deportivo’s Javier Gascón, Yamal first made it clear that transfer decisions belong to sporting director Deco.
“Which striker would I sign for Barça? I don’t know. As long as he scores goals. I really like Julián Álvarez and Mikel Oyarzabal, but that is Deco’s job, and he is doing it very well. We will support whoever comes and be very happy with him,” Yamal said.

But when asked directly about Álvarez, the Barcelona star was far more open.
“He is a great player. If he comes, we will welcome him with open arms. He would be joining the best club in the world, with the best fans in the world, in what for me is the best city in the world. If I were him, I would do it. We are waiting for him if he wants to come. Go for it,” Yamal said.
A public push from Barcelona’s young leader
Yamal’s comments are striking because players rarely speak so directly about possible signings, especially when the player in question belongs to a major domestic rival.
Álvarez has been strongly linked with a move away from Atlético Madrid, and Barcelona have been repeatedly mentioned as one of the clubs most interested in the Argentine forward.

According to ESPN’s report on Yamal’s remarks, Atlético have been unhappy with Barcelona’s pursuit of Álvarez, while the player has been linked with several major clubs.
That makes Yamal’s public endorsement even more notable.
He did not claim to know how advanced any deal might be. But he made his footballing preference clear: he rates Álvarez highly and believes he would fit at Barcelona.

The appeal is obvious.

Álvarez is a forward who can press, combine, move across the attack and score goals. Those qualities make him an attractive profile for a Barcelona side looking to refresh its frontline.
Yamal’s own words also hint at what Barcelona players may want from the next No. 9: not just a name, but a forward who can work within the team’s style.
Described by Sports Illustrated’s Toby Cudworth, Yamal’s comments have added fresh fuel to a transfer story that was already tense because of the relationship between Barcelona and Atlético.
For Barcelona supporters, the message will be easy to understand. One of the club’s biggest young stars has effectively told Álvarez that the door is open.

World Cup focus remains
For now, Yamal’s main priority is still Spain.
The teenager is representing his country at the World Cup, where his performances have only strengthened his status as one of the game’s leading young players.
That makes his comments even more interesting. Even during a major tournament, Yamal is already being treated as a voice that matters in Barcelona’s future.
Whether Álvarez actually arrives is another question.

Atlético’s stance, Barcelona’s finances and rival interest could all make the deal difficult. But Yamal has done what he can from the outside.
He has given Álvarez the invitation.
