Liverpool are pushing hard in the summer transfer market, reportedly targeting multiple players from European champions Paris Saint-Germain as they look to reshape their squad under manager Andoni Iraola. The Reds are understood to be in talks for two PSG wingers, Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, while also exploring a move for Ukrainian defender Illia Zabarnyi.

Reds seek attacking reinforcements

The pursuit of wide attackers comes as Liverpool prepares for the widely anticipated departure of star forward Mo Salah, who is expected to sign for Turkish Süper Lig side Trabzonspor. Liverpool have opened discussions for a second winger signing, with France international Bradley Barcola high on their list. Valued at £100 million, talks for Barcola are ongoing, though the two clubs have yet to agree on a final fee.

In a potential double deal, Liverpool also aim to secure the services of 18-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye, who primarily operates from the right flank. According to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Mbaye is eager to make the switch to Anfield.

“Liverpool are pushing to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye,” Hawkins reported. “The 18-year-old is understood to be keen on the move to Anfield, with Liverpool looking to strengthen their right-wing options this summer. Talks with PSG are expected to begin shortly after the player gave the green light. Liverpool want both Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.”

Mbaye’s burgeoning career already boasts significant milestones:

• He became the youngest player to win the UEFA Super Cup, aged 17 years, 6 months, and 19 days.

• He made his official debut for PSG in August 2024.

• After representing France at youth level, he switched international allegiance to Senegal and was part of their World Cup squad.

• Mbaye also became the youngest African goalscorer in World Cup history.

• PSG reportedly value Mbaye at around £35 million, and official negotiations between Liverpool and the French champions are expected to commence soon.

Defensive depth a priority

Beyond the attacking targets, Liverpool are also reportedly looking to bolster their defensive options. The club has held talks with the camp of Ukrainian defender Illia Zabarnyi, according to Dave Ockop. The 23-year-old joined PSG a year ago in a £57 million deal from Bournemouth, where he previously played for one-and-a-half seasons under current Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola.

Iraola has openly stated that his back line is “thin,” underscoring the need for reinforcements. Zabarnyi made 37 appearances for Luis Enrique’s PSG last season as they secured a domestic double, starting 26 of their 28 league matches. However, his Champions League involvement was more limited, with 7 appearances but no starts in knockout ties, including only a brief substitute cameo in the final.

PSG are considered unlikely to entertain a cut-price exit for Zabarnyi, who moved to Bournemouth from Dynamo Kyiv in January 2023 before his big-money switch to Paris. Liverpool have already brought in Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet, the latter for £60 million, this summer, as they continue to reshape their squad for the upcoming season.
