The wedding that football has been waiting for since 2016 is set to take place this weekend on the island where Ronaldo grew up.
Reports across the Portuguese and international press put the ceremony at Funchal Cathedral at 3pm local time, followed by a reception a short walk down the coast at the five-star Savoy Palace. Neither Ronaldo nor Rodríguez has issued any statement.
The biggest clue is at the hotel. Two of its floors and several bar areas will be sealed off to guests on Friday and Saturday for a private event, according to a source cited by Plataforma Media, a level of blackout usually reserved for state visits.
From Gucci store to Funchal Cathedral
The couple met in a Gucci store in Madrid in 2016 and became engaged in August 2025.

Rodríguez, 32, made the engagement public with a photo of a large diamond ring, and Ronaldo, 41, had told Portuguese television months earlier that the wedding would follow the 2026 World Cup.
Portugal’s tournament ended sooner than planned, with a 1-0 defeat to Spain in the round of 16 on 6 July.
Postecoglou meets his captain before the vows
Between the World Cup exit and the wedding sits an awkward month for Al-Nassr.
The Saudi champions appointed Ange Postecoglou as head coach in July on a two-year deal, and the Australian has been running pre-season without his captain.

Ronaldo turned up on Tuesday in Lisbon for the final friendly of Al-Nassr’s Portuguese camp, a 2-0 defeat by Almería in which he watched from the stands and greeted Postecoglou for the first time.
He has still not returned to training, the only member of the squad in that position.
Postecoglou’s opening act was equally uncomfortable, a 1-2 loss to Benfica B on 22 July in a behind-closed-doors friendly at a Benfica training facility.
Ronaldo had been given time to rest after the World Cup, with no timetable set for his return.

Five days to Riyadh
The Saudi Pro League 2026-27 season kicks off on Thursday 13 August, five days after the reported ceremony in Funchal.
For Ronaldo, the diary reads: reception in Madeira on Saturday, flight to Riyadh, and a league opener without a single minute of pre-season match play.
