Chelsea ready to pay £90m for Alex Scott, with Bournemouth holding out for £100m

Chelsea are reportedly willing to go to around £90m for Bournemouth’s Alex Scott in January, with Liverpool also tracking the England midfielder as Bournemouth publicly set their price above £100m.

Chelsea want their January window to open with a statement, and the player at the centre of it is a 23-year-old midfielder recovering from a thigh injury on England duty.

The Blues are willing to spend around £90m to prise Alex Scott out of Bournemouth, according to the Daily Mail, who report that Xabi Alonso’s side have pursued the England international all summer and are now pushing for a mid-season resolution. Bournemouth are publicly asking for more than £100m.

Liverpool have also been tracking Scott, but Chelsea’s interest is described as more substantial, and rival clubs believe the London side are now in position to secure the deal, with insiders putting the realistic landing figure at around €108m (£90m).

Fee gap and timing

The gap between Chelsea’s expected offer and Bournemouth’s valuation is the obvious hurdle, but it is not an unusual one at this level. The Daily Mail suggests a deal could be agreed before the January transfer window opens, with Bournemouth’s recent run of five consecutive wins across competitions improving the sporting case for keeping Scott.

Scott is under contract at the Vitality Stadium, and FootballTransfers reports that Bournemouth are not willing to sell any of their key players mid-season, which strengthens the Cherries’ negotiating position.

£90m against Chelsea’s own winter record

A £90m January outlay would sit near the top of winter transfer records in the Premier League. The benchmark remains Chelsea’s own £106.8m deal for Enzo Fernández from Benfica in January 2023, a British record at the time.

Fernández left Stamford Bridge for Manchester City in the summer 2026 window in a deal reported by FootballTransfers at around €145m, and Scott is being lined up as the long-term replacement.

According to the Yahoo/Daily Mail write-up, Alonso already has Romeo Lavia, Jordan Henderson, Moisés Caicedo, Valentin Barco and Reece James available in the middle of the pitch, and the report questions whether a £90m midfield outlay is the right call given Chelsea’s defensive frailties and Scott’s recent two-month lay-off. The piece suggests AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara would be a cheaper, fitter alternative.

Rose rules Scott out for Leeds

Scott has not played since picking up a thigh injury on international duty earlier this month, during England’s 7-0 win over Croatia in the UEFA Nations League. He has missed Bournemouth’s last six competitive fixtures.

Marco Rose, the Bournemouth head coach, confirmed Scott will remain sidelined for Saturday’s Premier League match against Leeds United. Bournemouth then face Sparta Prague in the Europa League before travelling to Portman Road to play Ipswich Town.

Asked whether Scott could return against Ipswich, Rose told reporters it “could be an option but again, we have to ask ourselves, is it reasonable?”

Nothing has been confirmed by either club, and the Daily Mail’s report remains a transfer rumour. Rose has signalled that a decision on Scott’s return is more likely to come after the November international break than before it.
