Barcelona were already the highest-scoring side across Europe’s top five leagues before Wednesday night’s meeting with Racing Santander.
Then they scored another seven.
Hansi Flick’s side demolished Racing 7-2 at the Spotify Camp Nou to maintain their perfect start to the 2026/27 season, while taking their LaLiga total to an extraordinary 28 goals from just six matches.
It means Barcelona are averaging 4.67 league goals per game, but the numbers surrounding Raphinha and Lamine Yamal are arguably even more remarkable.

Raphinha and Yamal make Barcelona history
Ahead of the Racing match, Raphinha and Yamal had both scored six times in Barcelona’s opening five LaLiga fixtures.
That made them the first pair of Barcelona players ever to each reach at least six goals within the opening five rounds of a league season.
The previous comparable feat in LaLiga came more than 70 years ago, when Atlético Madrid’s Adrián Escudero and Francisco Molina both scored seven times across the first five rounds of the 1955/56 campaign.
The statistic was highlighted after SPORTbible reported on Barcelona’s extraordinary attacking start, although the historical comparison requires some clarification: the 1955/56 duo were Atlético players rather than Barcelona players.

Raphinha and Yamal have since pushed their numbers even further.
The Brazilian scored a hat-trick in the 7-2 victory over Racing, taking his LaLiga tally to nine goals in six appearances. Yamal struck Barcelona’s seventh in the 89th minute, moving to seven league goals for the campaign.
Together, the pair now have 16 league goals after just six rounds.
Europe’s most destructive attack keeps getting stronger
The extraordinary part is that Barcelona were already operating at a remarkable level before Racing arrived at Camp Nou.
According to Opta Analyst, Barcelona had scored 21 goals through their opening five LaLiga games, at least seven more than any other club in Europe’s five major leagues at that stage.
Those results included a 5-0 victory over Elche, a 2-0 win against Athletic Club, a 5-2 victory over Rayo Vallecano, another 5-0 demolition against Valencia and a 4-2 win away at Levante.
The 7-2 result against Racing has now increased the league tally to 28.
Across all competitions, Barcelona have scored 33 times in their first seven matches after also beating Feyenoord 5-1 in the Champions League.

It is not simply the volume of goals that stands out. Flick has built an attack capable of creating danger from several different positions rather than relying on one traditional number nine.
Raphinha has been used centrally, Yamal continues to cause problems from the right, while Karim Adeyemi, Anthony Gordon and Gabriel Jesus give Barcelona different options elsewhere across the front line.
Against Racing, that depth was on full display.
Raphinha scored three, Gabriel Jesus came from the bench to add another and Yamal completed the rout late on after being set up by Adeyemi. Barcelona’s official match report described the 7-2 victory as another emphatic display from Flick’s side.

Barcelona break a record that had never been broken
There was another piece of history attached to Wednesday’s victory.
Barcelona had entered the game with six wins from six across all competitions, matching the best start to a season in the club’s history.
Previous Barcelona teams had reached six consecutive victories at the beginning of a campaign in 1929/30, 1960/61 and 2018/19. None managed to win the seventh.
Flick’s team did.
According to Barcelona’s official website, the victory against Racing therefore made the current side the first Barça team ever to begin a season with seven consecutive wins.
Six of those victories have come in LaLiga and one in the Champions League.
Perhaps most concerning for their rivals is the manner in which Barcelona are doing it. They have scored five or more goals in five of those seven matches.
After completing his hat-trick against Racing, Raphinha summed up the mentality inside the team.
“Happy for the goals and for the victory, which is the most important thing,” he said before adding: “The players have the hunger to always want more.”
For a team that spent much of the summer being linked with an expensive new centre-forward, the beginning of the season has produced an unexpected answer.
Barcelona may not have landed the superstar striker many expected them to chase, but right now, nobody appears to be missing him.
