Chelsea Football Club has confirmed the departure of Head Coach Liam Rosenior, who has been relieved of his duties after just 106 days in charge at Stamford Bridge. The decision, announced on Wednesday, comes in the wake of a severe downturn in form, culminating in a Premier League defeat against Brighton this week.

Rosenior’s tenure began with considerable promise, as the former Strasbourg manager guided Chelsea to an impressive six wins in his opening seven games. However, the initial optimism quickly faded, replaced by a dismal run that saw the team suffer six defeats in their last seven outings.

A swift reversal of fortunes

The club’s hand was ultimately forced by a particularly troubling sequence of results in the Premier League, where Chelsea endured five straight defeats without finding the back of the net. This alarming slump significantly jeopardized their ambitions for the current season, prompting the swift change at the helm.

In a statement, Chelsea Football Club acknowledged the difficulty of the decision. “This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season,” the club stated. Chelsea’s immediate goals include achieving European qualification and progressing in the FA Cup, with an upcoming semi-final clash against Leeds United this weekend.

Interim appointment and significant compensation

Despite his short time at the club, Rosenior will receive a substantial compensation package. Having signed a six-year deal with Chelsea in January, he is set to receive approximately £4 million, representing one year of compensation, as reported by GIVEMESPORT.

Calum McFarlane will step into the role of Interim Head Coach, taking charge of the senior squad for the remainder of the season. He will be supported by existing club backroom staff. Chelsea’s statement also indicated a period of introspection for the club. “As the Club works to bring stability to the Head Coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment.” The search for a permanent successor is expected to focus on securing a suitable candidate for the 2026/2027 campaign.
