La Liga President Javier Tebas has voiced an unconventional preference for how the Spanish top flight’s title race should unfold, expressing a dislike for teams accumulating excessively high point totals and a desire for the championship to be decided later in the season.

Tebas specifically highlighted his aversion to a dominant champion, stating that he finds it undesirable for a team to reach 100 points.

His ideal scenario sees the eventual winner finishing with fewer than 90 points, suggesting a more tightly contested league as the optimal outcome.

“Barça can reach 100 points in the league? I DON’T like it when teams reach 100 points, it’s too many,” Tebas told Goal. “It’s true that Real Madrid and Atlético have dropped a lot of points and are below their usual level, but I don’t like the champion going beyond 90 points.”

His comments imply a belief that the current performances of traditional powerhouses Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid have contributed to a less competitive environment at the very top, leading to the potential for one team to run away with the league.

Further elaborating on his vision for an exciting season, Tebas made it clear he favors a title race that goes down to the wire.

This sentiment extends to a specific, high-profile fixture, with the La Liga president openly hoping that the league’s most anticipated match, El Clásico, does not serve as the decisive moment for the championship.

“I like leagues that are decided on the final matchday. That’s why I’d prefer Barça not to win the title in El Clásico,” Tebas added, as reported by Goal. This stance underscores a desire for extended drama and unpredictability, rather than an early coronation, even if it involves the league’s biggest spectacle.

Tebas’s remarks offer a unique insight into the league’s leadership perspective, suggesting a preference for a more balanced and competitive landscape, where multiple teams remain in contention for the title deep into the campaign, rather than one club establishing overwhelming dominance.
