A week after Ferrari threw away their clearest shot at a race win this season, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc rolled into Interlagos with nothing visibly settled between them.

Hamilton was asked at the Brazilian Grand Prix media session whether he thinks his teammate races him more aggressively than the rest of the field, with the question specifically referencing Leclerc’s wheel-to-wheel approach against Max Verstappen in Singapore.

“Yes,” Hamilton said. He refused to say more when asked to expand, replying only that he could not.

Pressed again, the seven-time world champion reached back to earlier teammates.

“If you look at the teammates, it’s the same with Sebastian. It’s the same with Carlos,” he said, placing Leclerc in the same category as Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz.

Mexico is the wound that hasn’t closed

The frustration traces to Turn 4 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. Leclerc went around the outside of pole-sitter Hamilton, both cars ran off the circuit, and Leclerc emerged with the position. Verstappen slipped through the gap and went on to win, with Hamilton second and Leclerc fourth after a five-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage. Ferrari had looked quick enough for a one-two.

Hamilton told reporters that the team needed “serious talks behind the scenes,” argued that Ferrari still has no rules of engagement between its drivers, and openly questioned whether “that will change anything from Charles’ side.”

Vasseur is not sparing anyone

Team principal Fred Vasseur has not singled out Leclerc in his verdict on the clash. He framed it as a joint failure.

“I think it’s a lack of respect, a lack of respect for the brand, a lack of respect for all the people working here and for the efforts we’re putting in,” Vasseur said.

He also noted that Hamilton had been running wide at the same corner and reminded both drivers that they race for a team of 2,000 people and a list of sponsors, not for themselves.

Brundle expects more trouble in Brazil

Martin Brundle, the former driver and Sky Sports analyst, is not expecting Interlagos to patch the relationship. He warned that Ferrari’s current handling of the rivalry “doesn’t look good” and that polite promises to put the team first tend to collapse as soon as the lights go out.

Hamilton did not back off that position in Brazil either.

“I was frustrated, I’m still frustrated. Conversations need to be had,” he said.
