According to BuliNews, Alphonso Davies has rejoined the Canadian national team ahead of the upcoming World Cup, though the Bayern Munich star is not yet ready for a full return to action. His presence marks a significant boost for Canada, even as his recovery from injury remains a day-by-day process.

The dynamic left-back was seen running laps before Canada’s 2-0 friendly victory over Uzbekistan in Alberta on Monday, a positive sign of progress. However, the light training session underscored the cautious approach being taken with his rehabilitation.

Davies’ measured optimism

Davies himself expressed a sense of relief and optimism at being back with his teammates, even if only on the sidelines. “It feels nice to get back on the pitch and do some running,” he stated. “I’m happy to be home, I’m happy to be with the boys and support them, whether it’s just on or off the pitch.”

Despite his enthusiasm, the 23-year-old acknowledged the need for patience. “We just have to see how everything goes over the next couple days,” Davies added. “I’ll just continue my rehab, my progression, and see how I’m feeling, day by day, step by step.”

Coach Jesse Marsch stresses no pressure

Canada coach Jesse Marsch echoed Davies’ cautious sentiment, emphasizing that there is no pressure on the player to rush his comeback. Marsch highlighted the importance of Davies regaining full trust in his body before stepping back onto the pitch.

“What we don’t want to do is put him in a situation to suffer again and to be vulnerable again,” Marsch explained. “You can imagine that he wants to build up his body and trust his body in all ways, so that he can go out and play football and do the things he loves.”

The coaching staff’s focus is on meticulous monitoring and support. “So we’re going to make sure that as a staff that we do a good job of really looking at him every single day, monitoring every single day, and putting him in position to succeed, and I’m sure we will,” Marsch affirmed.

Canada is preparing for its World Cup opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12. Davies’ availability for that crucial match will depend entirely on his continued progression and the medical team’s assessment, with the long-term health of the star player taking precedence over any immediate demands.
