Thierry Henry delivered a playful explanation for Jude Bellingham’s remarkable World Cup performances during a discussion about England’s two leading players.
The former France and Arsenal striker was involved in a FOX Sports debate over whether Bellingham and Harry Kane should now be placed on the same level as football’s biggest international stars.
When the discussion turned to why Bellingham had been so effective, Henry offered a simple response:
“Because he plays with Harry Kane.”

The remark appeared to be delivered with a smile, but it also reflected Henry’s considerable admiration for the England captain.
According to FOX Sports’ video of the discussion, the panel considered whether Kane and Bellingham’s performances had earned them recognition alongside the tournament’s most celebrated players.
Henry has repeatedly praised Kane
Henry has been one of Kane’s most vocal admirers during the World Cup.
The Frenchman previously described the Bayern Munich striker as the world’s best number nine in terms of his overall game, praising his ability to score, create chances and bring teammates into attacking moves.

As shown in a separate FOX Sports analysis of Kane, Henry argued that few strikers possess the England captain’s complete range of qualities.
His comment about Bellingham can therefore be read as another compliment towards Kane rather than an attempt to diminish the Real Madrid midfielder.
Kane frequently moves away from the penalty area to receive possession, occupying defenders and creating room for runners from midfield. Bellingham’s timing and physical power allow him to attack the spaces that emerge.
That interpretation helps explain why the two players became England’s most decisive attacking figures during the tournament.

England pair make World Cup history
Bellingham and Kane both scored six times during England’s run to the semi-finals.
Before the defeat to Argentina, they had equalled England’s record for the most goals scored by one player at a single major tournament. Kane originally set that mark when he won the Golden Boot with six goals in 2018.
FIFA also confirmed that England became the first nation to have two players score at least six goals during the same men’s World Cup, underlining the scale of their combined contribution.
Bellingham scored twice against Mexico and added another brace in the quarter-final victory over Norway. Kane found the net throughout the tournament and repeatedly delivered when England were struggling to break opponents down.

Mutual respect between England stars
The admiration between the pair has been clear throughout the tournament.
After England defeated Panama, Bellingham described Kane as the country’s greatest-ever player. Kane responded by praising his younger teammate’s maturity, technique and ability to influence important matches.
According to England Football’s account of Kane’s comments, the captain described Bellingham’s performance against Panama as “fantastic” after the midfielder contributed a goal and an assist.
England’s campaign ultimately ended with a 2-1 semi-final defeat to Argentina, but Kane and Bellingham remained central to the team’s deepest World Cup run since 2018.

Henry’s explanation was deliberately simplistic and delivered as television banter. Behind the joke, however, was a serious point.
Bellingham’s individual quality made him one of the tournament’s standout players. Playing alongside one of the most complete strikers of his generation certainly did not hurt.
